During last week, I had planned to go fishing down in Long Beach with my brother. We had bought size 5/O Nautilus Light circle hooks prior to the trip because that weekend we were setting up to catch a shark. Times before last weekend we have caught Spotted Bay Bass, Sand Bass, Stingrays and many times we had lost "the big one" at this spot. That is why we had stepped up the hook size to see if we could hook up on the "monster" lurking in those waters. That being said, our plan had been a success, my brother did hook up on a shark, it was about two and half feet long (about the size of my arm) and it was fairly skinny, although, it was the targeted species. Now this week, my brother and I are taking a break from Long Beach so we can catch up with the fishing over in Balboa (Newport Beach). This is where we always catch Calico Bass, Spotted Bay Bass, Sand Bass and the occasional Halibut. The spots always vary, sometimes one spot will pop off harder than the other so we have to adjust our location and maybe even have to cut down our egg sinkers to 3/4 oz. or even 1/2 oz. depending on the tide. You wouldn't think that reading skills would work in an event like this outside of the class room. Though, when I am fishing, it is like highlighting a paragraph and annotating it. I have to watch for details of how the fish are acting along with how they are reacting to our bait, the water current, and where they are hiding in the structure. In certain times the skills we learn one week will help over a course of weeks and sometimes it has to be adjusted.

This was very interesting about how you are able to relate your skills learned during class with situations in life. I used to go fishing often and I never really thought about it that way until now! What you said is spot on.
